The Visual Design Department of Universidad de Caldas, calls to designers, artists, visual creators and researchers in interactive and digital media to participate in the IV Monographic Show of Media Art. The event will take place from April, 15 to April, 19 of 2008, as part of VII Internacional Image Festival.

The Visual Design Department of Universidad de Caldas, calls to designers, artists, visual creators and researchers in interactive and digital media to participate in the IV Monographic Show of Media Art. The event will take place from April, 15 to April, 19 of 2008, as part of VII Internacional Image Festival.

The Internacional Image Festival, that is stated in Manizales, Colombia, is a space for the expression of the contemporary practices of media arts creation. The event is the place to study the effect of digital visual creations in the information society and pretends not only to be the space for critical analysis, but also a place to interchange experiences around various narrative languages and the creative processes media generates.

The media art concept refers to the use of mixed media for audiovisual creation; to the transformation of this creation with interactive and digital technologies; to the approach of aesthetic, cultural, social and political dimensions of technology; to the deepening of cultural hybridism concept and the transposition of historic layers that form the human experience; and to the creative use of media to transform the world.
The IV Monographic Show of Media Art has the purpose of encourages the creation related to technology and favors the communication between technology developers and audiovisual creators. Besides, the Show promotes the production and exhibition of telematic and collaborative developments. The Call rules are as follows:

1. Open to designers, artists, engineers, communicators, or groups with works made on video graphic, electronic or digital systems.
2. The participating works must fulfill the following policies: a) prove that the works is a result of new interchanges and explorations of new ways where digital technologies generates particular aesthetics proposals; b) Be concluded and be full functionality for exhibition.
3. The inscribed works should have produced no earlier than 2004.
4. The works must be inscribed by their authors. In the case of collaborative work, one person of the team should be assigned to represent the group.
5. The official languages are Spanish and English. Where appropriate the works should be subtitled or doubled in any of these languages.
6. Three images (digital format of high quality in CD or downloaded from Internet) should be sent.
7. The pieces of work will be selected by a Committee, conformed by well known and prestigious specialists who will evaluate all the works and projects behind those proposals, in order to select the ones that match the criteria and that will be given the opportunity to exhibit.
8. The final selected pieces of work will be published on the Festival’s web site on the 14th of March 2008: www.festivaldelaimagen.com.
9. The best works, according to the international jury, will be granted a Special Mention, in each one of the following categories:
- Fixed image
Digital images of plastic expression or with visual communication goals.
- Animation
Motion images from digital sources for several formats of plastic expression or with visual communication goals.
- Video
Motion images from analogue or digital sources for several formats of plastic expression or with visual communication goals.
- Net Art
Art works that take advantage of webs and databases.
- Interactive
Digital media for CD or DVD of plastic expression or with visual communication goals.
- Web Design
Digital media for the Web with visual communication goals.
- Sound Landscapes
Digital art works with the intervention over sound and its relation with other perceptual elements.
- Videogames
Interactive games for entertainment or serious games.
- Infodesign
Digital information design for orientation in virtual spaces and/or information comprehension.
10. The Special Mentions will be announced in public ceremony within the framework of the Festival. The ceremony will take place at the “Centro Cultural y de Convenciones Los Fundadores” on April 18th 2007.
11. The submissions for proposals will start with the publication of this paper until the February 29th 2007 – 6PM, in the following address:

- It will be accepted mail with date of February 29th 2007.

12. The organization will receive the works in the following formats: CD ROM, DVD, VHS (PAL or NTSC formats), Betacam, UMatic, DVCam or MiniDV.
13. For international entries, please make clear that the contents are of cultural nature of non commercial value. The Festival won\’t cover the costs for post and packaging or any taxes incurred during the delivery.
14. The application form and all necessary documentation can be downloaded from the Festival’s web site (www.festivaldelaimagen.com). Proposals that do not include all the required information and attached documentation will not be considered.
15. Individual or group entries must give permission to the Universidad of Caldas to present the work in the framework of the
VI International Image Festival and full permission should be given to use the images of the work for marketing reasons. The author(s) will have full ownership of the material.
16. The materials received won\’t be returned to the senders and they will become part of the IMAGOTECA of the “Departamento de Diseño Visual de la Universidad de Caldas” These materials will be used in the educational and marketing programmes of the IMAGOTECA, a non-profit program.
17. The decisions taken by the Selection Committee and the International Jury will be inappealable.
18. The proposals and works received will be considered, as samples and therefore, the Festival organization will not grant prizes in money to the selected works or the ones with Special Mentions.
19. The participants accept all the conditions of this event. The Festival’s Planning Committee will deal with any eventualities or unforeseen issues.

The competition asks those who design interiors, buildings, products, landscapes, and other aspects of the man-made environment to consider water in all of its forms—pure, gray, black—and our many points of contact with it. The designer or team whose idea is judged most innovative and practical for making the most efficient, life/environment -enhancing use of the precious and dwindling water resource will be awarded $10,000 and will appear in the pages of Metropolis.

Media City 14 – March 4 – 8, 2008

Media City is an international festival of experimental film and video art presented annually in Windsor, Ontario, Canada since 1994. The festival is a co-presentation of Artcite Inc. (Windsor’s artist-run centre for the contemporary arts) and House of Toast (Windsor’s film and video collective). Each year Media City screens approximately fifty new films and videos in all gauges and formats in its international competition programs. The festival also hosts retrospective screenings and discussions with featured artists and presents installations in Artcite Inc. and other venues.

Main venue for Media City screenings is the historic Capitol Theatre and Arts Centre in downtown Windsor. Refer HERE for screening schedules and ticket prices. Tickets are available at the door or in advance at the Capitol Theatre box office.

Ce festival international révélateur de talents a rassemblé au cœur du Limousin pas moins de 40 équipes composées des meilleurs designers d’interface au monde, venus s’affronter dans une compétition marathon de 24 heures.
En parallèle de la compétition, le WIF a l’ambition d’être le carrefour international du design interactif.

Son objectif ?
Favoriser les rencontres et échanges entre les participants a travers :
- des conférences sur l’innovation dans le Webdesign et le design interactif ;
- des rencontres avec des professionnels, Web Agency, Donneurs d’ordres, Editeurs de logiciels
et grandes marques de l’informatique ;
- des soirées de réseautage autour du design..

Le WIF en 2008

Cette nouvelle édition aura lieu du 17 au 19 avril 2008 en Limousin à Limoges, terre d’innovation en matière de design interactif via son pôle Excellence e-Design.

Pour marquer son implication, le WIF pourrait devenir annuel et accueillera au mois d’avril 2008, les 150 meilleurs designers numériques mondiaux lors de la grande finale.
De nombreux partenaires désirent s’impliquer dans l’aventure WIF et étudient les possibilités d’accorder leur soutien et leur savoir-faire pour cette nouvelle compétition.
Dès que les signatures des conventions auront eu lieu, l’information sera mise en ligne.

Les présélections internationales du WIF 2008, contrairement aux autres années, se feront simultanément en ligne le 18 janvier 2008.
